The Master Bath

The master bath was another victim of my over zealous paint brush. I carried in the blue from the bedroom thinking it would have a spa-like feel. Instead it felt overly bright and yes maybe this room was a little garish.
I added the over-the-toilet cabinet thinking that would help break up the blue and make me like it more. It didn't work.

I also changed out the small silver mirror and put in a larger dark brown mirror. This made me hate the standard builder cabinet even more then I already did. My first thought was: paint the cabinet. I researched all over the Internet and found so many people who did paint their cabinet and seemed to really like it, but most of those people had really nice white molding and I wasn't about to take on the job of painting the molding too. So I did some more research to find if anyone did anything nice with their honey oak molding and I came across the blog All Things G&D. I really liked her ideas for their house and especially her striped bathroom. So I looked at the paint I had left over from some previous rooms and….

VOILA!
The new shower curtain was the only extra expense. I used the Latte from the master bedroom for the lower and upper parts of the walls, the chocolate paint for the dark stripes came from the wall in my living room, and the lighter cream is from the ceiling in my son's room. It was a bear to paint, but it feels like a completely new room.
The different wood tones of the cabinet over the toilet, the mirror, and the builder cabinet don't seem so off balanced any more because of the dark and light stripes seem to tie them all together. If we were staying in the house I would probably also splurge on a new light fixture, faucet and pulls, but the nickel doesn't look so bad right now.
If you are interested in doing this in your own house. Make sure you don't try and do it all in one day. It took about two days to do this and I probably would have taken longer if we didn't have someone scheduled to see our house the day after I finished. This takes a steady hand (no I didn't use tape), a level, and a husband who is willing to draw all of the lines.

  1. I can't believe you did all that work to put all these stripes on the wall! Where do you find the time girl!
