After watching countless hours of HGTV and design shows, I have always kind of thought I was a fairly good amateur decorator. I love color and am not afraid of it. When my husband and I first bought our house almost 5 years ago we invited our families over to paint almost every room of the house. Our tastes were far from the previous owners, where we like warm earthy colors, the previous owners liked minimalism Americanism…meaning a lot of white with dashes of red and blue. To be clear there is absolutely nothing wrong with that; it just isn't our style.
We splashed greens, browns, and reds throughout the whole house. We left no wall unpainted. It sounds garish, but it was/is I think very attractive. (Pictures will be posted.) Flash forward to today and the house I thought we so lovingly and beautifully decorated and updated is spending its 9th month on the market. I know that it is really slow going for everyone, but a couple weeks ago I started to wonder if our color choices might have been too bold and that is one of the reasons buyers aren't interested.
So we decided to take the first few steps of neutralizing our house. In doing this, I have rediscovered my love for this house and I fully understand that just because you like a color doesn't mean it has to be all over your walls. There are so many other ways to infuse color in a more pleasing and restful way. And so my neutralizing that started in my bedroom and continued into my bathroom will spread through the rest of the house.
